Compared to traditional social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, users can use Whisper while remaining completely anonymous, so they can keep their real identities safe. Posted can be in the form of text and images, and the platform features special groups that talk about all kinds of topics and interests.
Sharing anonymously
Whisper is essentially an anonymous social media platform for those looking for a way to voice out their thoughts while keeping their identity safe. When you open the app, you get a feed of random posts based on what's popular and new, and those near to your location. You can also create or join groups depending on what interests you.
Tap the + button to create a post aptly called a 'whisper' wherein you can write anything and customize it with different fonts. Change the background by searching the web or upload your own. Anyone who views it can publicly reply via comments or send you a private message directly. Throughout the whole experience, you will use an online handle to interact with others.
Going to message, you can navigate to the Chat section where you can view all your conversations with other people privately or through groups. Now, the platform has raised many concerns over its lack of censorship or moderation for sensitive content that pretty much anyone can see. Also, there have been multiple cases where the platform has been used for something illegal and purposes with ill intent.
Interesting but worrisome
Overall, Whisper has managed to offer something unique and different with its approach to anonymity, essentially letting you say anything you want. However, it has also set itself up to be misused by some individuals and rightfully raises concerns. While a novel idea, it still needs to work on execution and putting up safeguards. Nevertheless, it's still worth checking out.
